A British woman is facing up to six years in jail after being caught romping on a public beach by authorities in Dubai.

The 30-year-old woman, a publishing firm manager, was apparently drunk on champagne when she headed onto Jumeirah Beach with a fellow Brit known only as Vince.

A police officer later found them in the middle of a steamy copulation, and let them off with a caution. When he returned a few minutes later, the couple were at it again -- and were summarily arrested. Apparently the United Arab Emirates has strict laws on public sex. Who knew?

The woman then launched into a four-letter racist tirade against the Muslim official, and was later charged with indecent behaviour, public drunkenness and assaulting a police officer. She now faces between three months and six years in jail, as does her (temporary) partner.

There are even rumours that the couple have married, in order to reduce their sentences. Which on balance probably wasn't the happiest moment of their lives.

Worse still, the authorities in Dubai are under pressure to curtail the drunken antics of foreign (I.E. British) visitors, and there are concerns the couple are being made an example of for the benefit of public opinion. Hopes the couple will be let off easy are slowly evaporating...

Best get a hotel room next time.

(Sex on British beaches isn't quite as much fun as it is in Dubai... we imagine. But sex at music festivals, on the other hand, is totally acceptable.)
