Amazing Lewis Hamilton video suggests F1 could go RC
Email ThisFormula One bosses have tried a series of measures to liven-up the sport, but a web video featuring McLaren star Lewis Hamilton suggests that removing the drivers from the equation could be the next step.
The promo film for Vodafone shows an office worker racing a model F1 car around a home-made circuit, using a mobile phone to steer it.
The film then jumps to a test track in Portugal, where the same technology is used to let Lewis Hamilton steer his McLaren Mercedes around the paddock and track.
We'd never be so churlish as to suggest that F1 is already like a robotic procession, devoid of any thrills and spills, but perhaps seating the drivers in the grandstand and allowing them to drive by remote control might lead to the sort of destruction derby mayhem we all secretly want in our motor racing?
We bet some of the drivers in this gallery of incredible crashes wished they'd been steering by remote control...

very interesting i often wondered how far they had progressed with electronic technology. After seeing a formula 1 car being remotely driven it makes you wonder what else they are using unknown to us.But it was a very intresting video to see. I know a lot of the operations on the vehicle is set and checked from the pits and viewing point by computer operated engineer?.

cant be done?
arse.
how do you think they cleared the pile up when there were drivers? cranes etc.
if anything no drivers will make it easier to clear the mess. only problem will be for the cranes to delvier the knackered cars to the right place, but seeing as the drivers never stay with the crash i guess they do that already

Some time ago someone did an ad showing two leading F1 drivers apparently using remote controls from a grandtsand.. at the time.. supposed to be a joke.. WELL.. it isnt. Yes, they can, but then the drivers wont get danger money any more.............. drivers rarely get hurt or killed these days due to safety measures.. they WOULD see more from outside the car that they currently can IN.. its an interesting thought.
