In what sounds like a smurfing good time, a group of 2,510 Welsh students and residents dressed as Smurfs and piled into a nightclub, smurfing the previous record of Smurfs gathered in one place. Each white-hatted and blue-painted participant had to be verified before the title was officially handed over at 1 a.m.
Smurfs have inspired five such world record attempts over the last two years. The previous record was held by the town of Castleblayney in Ireland, where 1,253 Smurfs showed up.
"Smurf Guinness World Record holder has become an illustrious title," said Rebecca Oatley of costume shop Jokers' Masquerade. "We knew that if we were going to break the record, we had to do it in style and 2,510 Smurfs will be a tough act to follow for any budding record-breakers."
