The art of driving through a puddle and splashing pedestrians is nothing new -- we're sure mammoths were running through puddles at high speed to splash cavemen even before the invention of the wheel -- but filming it and posting it to YouTube is.Well now drivers have been warned they could face criminal charges for carrying out a drive-by-drenching.
Kerry Callard, 29, was recently caught after soaking a group of kids at a bus stop in Plymouth, Devon, and uploading the footage to the web.
The clip, called 'drowning school kids' was filmed by her partner who provided a running commentary from the passenger seat including the insightful observation "That was brilliant! Awesome!"
Shortly after the video 'drowning school kids' was posted to YouTube and Facebook, complaints were made to police and the clip was pulled. It must have been quick because it had only amassed 500 views, and this was YouTube gold. (It has since been uploaded again -- watch it via YouTube below.)
Callard was then quizzed by police and despite her claims that the kids asked to be splashed, she has been warned that officers are considering a charge of reckless driving... or they will do, when they stop laughing.

What seems to have escaped the notice of the Police is that drenching pedestrians by driving through puddles is already an offence and has been for years, 'Driving without due care and attention' it's called.

Totally reckless. These people should be prosecuted - I have been the victim of just such stupidity on more than one occasion - NOT funny when you have a toddler in a buggy who also gets soaked.

What an appalling thing to do. This couple are stupid juveniles and deserve to be prosecuted.Would they think it funny to have to sit in wet clothes all day? I think their names and address should be given to the parents of these children and let them deal with the morons

You can only hope they start aquaplaining and smash into a tree or similar and die. They think its fun when someone else has to walk in the rain while they sit in their nice dry car thinking, how can i make them feel even worse. Sart treating others better. And that goes for the Whole of the human race.

Well, you can hardly expect someone to be so cruel as to purposely drench you. I mean, how immature can some people get? It's disgraceful that people do things like this just for a laugh. I agree with all of the comments against this pathetic behaviour. As for those of you that think it is funny, well I'd love to see you get drenched when you're about to go to school. Idiots.

Well, yes it's not a very nice thing to do, but that does not make something unfunny. Sometimes the two things can't be seperated. That's why we go and watch comedy shows with people like Frank Skinner and Frankie Boyle, or we watch horror movies that we know will cause all kinds of emotions and thoughts, but we still go!
These kids were the victim of a prank, nobody was hurt, nobody had there life altered or changed forever. You can't say 'this might of happened' or 'next time they might crash'. The simple fact is that they drove through a puddle. We have got to keep things in context, all this mock outrage is all very well and good, but maybe we should save it for something important like Irans nukes, or the MP's expenses scandel, or even better our young lads getting body parts blown off by roadside bombs because we don't give them the right vehicle to travel in?? That's a little more worth while than a puddle... so please save some of the moaning for that or we're all in danger of flying off the handle about every last little thing. We are rather turning into a bunch of whingers and moaners.

where are they supposed to stand if that is where the bus stop is!!!! and if they asked for it i would expect the adults driving the car to be a little more mature and not do it!!! also in reply to someone above their are plenty of people who have jobs yet still cant afford a car!! aside from dangerouse driving i would have expected some one purposly soaking you wpould be classed as assault.

I've done it to others and had it done to me. When young we don't realise that what we think is funny is not really that cool and potentially dangerous. When i used to soaked others It seemed very funny, then i grew up and when i was soaked in return later on in life, it was shit, well what goes around...

I agree if you stand next to a puddle you are going to get wet, lucky it was omly a car and not a large wagon. Use some common sense and stand away from the puddle, preferably the side where the traffic is coming from. If you stand at the bus stop you will get wet when the bus arrives. Don't we teach common sense in schools any more

Not only is the action of the driver highly irresponsible but the tone of the article on AOL is equally reprehesible by suggesting that the police may find this funny. The police have to deal with fatal accidents caused by morons like this and the article appears almost to condone this type of behaviour. Why on earth show the clip as it will only encourage others and eventually someone will be killed.

I kinda agree with you but... having spent 6 years as a firefighter where you are directly involved with fatal road incidents I found it amusing, and reminding me of a time when I was driving a water tanking lorry (non fire service)with a top side air vent and when going round a right bend water would spew out of said vent, imagine my delight on coming up behind a traffic warden walking along a right hand bend in Lowestoft years ago... Man I laughed my arse off for days!

It was a puddle. lighten up the lot of you , it was a puddle. No one died. no one got hurt. Some kids , who were already stood in the rain , got a little wetter. And yes im sure even the kids probably laughed. Its not assualt , because its a puddle , not a rock. Yes the drivers could have crashed , but everything carries a death risk , are you proposing we do nothing ever unless its completely safe and pre measure? They drove at a relativly decent speed , they were going unreasonably quickly , through a puddle of rain water. take this in proportion. If the story was they drove through the puddle and hit the children with the car then yeah get up in arms , but loosen up , It was just a puddle , and admittedly was rather funny
