We at Asylum "aimons" Carla Bruni (that's love in French). But now we "aimons" her even more, because the French first lady has been immortalised in the sexiest way possible - as a Simpsons' character.

Bruni appears as a chain-smoking man-eater who propositions Carl Carlson when he and Homer are invited to reception at the Elysee Palace in Paris, in a new episode to mark the show's twentieth year. Granted it's not her actual voice (despite many political stars appearing in the show) but it's enough to get the French public, and the world for that matter, laughing.

Homer warns Carl that Bruni is president Sarkozy's wife, telling him: "You know that woman you've been playing 'hide the baguette' with? That's the First Lady of France, Carla Bruni."

Later Carl rings Sarkozy only to be greeted by the French Pres' himself saying, "Ello, you are getting cozy with Sarkozy," while the sultry yellow Bruni, sat on his desk, nibbles cheese and sips on red wine.

Despite The Simpsons' regular jokes at the expense of the French the show remains as popular in France as ever. With millions of the "cheese-eating-surrender-monkeys" (a phrase coined by Les Simpsons) taking to the Internet to see this episode online before it is aired in France.

Carla Bruni in The Simpsons

The Simpsons has had more than its fair share of political heavyweights cropping up. Here are our favourite political cameos - and the best of the rest.

Fidel Castro - Sadly the ex-Cuban President wasn't available to voice his appearance, what with travel between Cuba and the US still banned.

Mikhail Gorbachev - Part-time Russian politician and full-time Louis Vuitton model, Gorbachev, appeared in an episode with George Bush Snr, though he was too busy "with political stuff" to voice himself.
George Bush Snr - Bush's wife Barbara once called The Simpsons "the dumbest thing [she] had ever seen," which led the show's writers to send her a letter in which they posed as Marge Simpson. Bush immediately sent a reply in which she apologized. Surprisingly Bush Snr didn't voice his character.
Bill Clinton - Old Bill has appeared in a few episodes, most memorably in "Tree House of Horror VII" when he was abducted by Kang and Kodos, though Clinton never voiced himself.
Tony Blair - When The Simpsons came to England the king of PR himself, old Tony, was hardly going to miss the boat was he? Annoyingly his character, who he voiced, also got to wear a jet-pack and got a decent gag. The injustice of it.
Sir Ian McKellen - Star of Coronation Street and renowned ham, Sir Ian McKellen also made an appearance in the UK-based "Regina Monologues" episode.
Ricky Gervais - Not only did Gervais guest-star in an episode but he also co-wrote it. The jammy sod.

Paul and Linda McCartney - The world's premier veggies appeared in an episode to help guide Lisa who was struggling with her own newly discovered veggieness (which probably isn't a word).
Blink 182 - The pop-punk three-piece appeared in a star-studded episode which also featured Tony Hawk - the pro-skate boarder, not the Radio 4 comedian, Tony Hawks, though that would have been cool too. We like both Tonys, but not Tony Blair.

Elton John - Sir Elton sang I Hope You Don't Mind on an episode, cunningly reworking it for The Simpsons by adding the word "Apu" on the end.

Michael Jackson - In a bit of a weird show, which sees Homer sectioned, Michael Jackson voices a three-hundred-pound builder. The episode culminates with Bart and Michael singing this heart warming song to Lisa after Bart ruins her birthday.

Natalie Portman - In the episode "Little Big Girl", Portman plays Bart's new teenage girlfriend Darcy and trust us, it's hard not to fall in love with her.
Mandy Moore - After her somewhat underwhelming pop career, Moore has turned into a legitimate actor (baring "A Walk To Remember" - which is among the most gip-inducing films of all time ever in the universe) and now has voiced a character in The Simpsons.
Stephen Hawking - The world's most intelligent man loves The Simpsons so much he's appeared several times. And let's face it if he likes it, he's got to be right.
