We all remember the episode of Star Trek when the crew got trapped in the holodeck, and the Red Dwarf episode where Lister and the gang discover they've been playing a virtual reality game for four years.

Whether Google's latest "20% project" is more like the holodeck or Red Dwarf's virtual reality set-up, is up to you. The cunning devils have strung up 8 long-screen, and hooked it up to Google Street View to create a fully immersive 360 degree experience.

Though now officially christened Liquid Galaxy the idea of the project is "more like a ride than a computer program, something between an observation-deck and a glass-walled spaceship.

"As a result of this totally seamless, immersive experience, we decided to name it the Liquid Galaxy," said Google.

Though early incarnations have only seen the project working with screens we'd like to see them team up with UK 360 tech pioneers, and Glasto regulars, Igloo, to create something, pretty freaking sweet.

See the a video of Liquid Galaxy after the break.

The Google Holodeck, sorry "Liquid Galaxy."
