Robbie Knievel, son of legendary daredevil Evel, announced yesterday that he is going to jump 16 London buses next May. The jump is a full three buses longer than the jump his father failed to complete at Wembley in 1975.

Evel Knievel crashed as he hit the ground in 1975, breaking his pelvis and crushing a vertebra as his motorbike landed on top of him. Despite that, Robbie, who has mostly used a light rally crosser for his jumps, is intent on using a Harley-Davidson XR750, a bike similar to the one his father used.

"I've never jumped a Harley-Davidson before and I'm ten years older than my dad was when he retired," said Robbie yesterday.

"I always wanted to do the Wembley jump that my dad attempted and failed. Daredevils are a dying breed. I'm proud to have been raised by one and to be one myself."

The third of Evel's four children, Robbie has broken 20 world records, completing over 350 jumps, his most famous stunt coming in 1999 jumping the Grand Canyon. Just before his Wembley jump, Evel jumped 15 greyhound buses at Kings Island in Cincinnati, and on that site 33 years later Robbie jumped 24 lorries landing a full 100 feet further than his father.
