Dozens of paralytic parrots are said to have started falling from the sky near Darwin, Australia after eating a mystery food which causes them to lose coordination and pass out.Avian experts say the red collar lorikeets (like the sober one pictured) are eating an unknown substance which quickly gets them drunk and causes them to lose control.
Their stupor means the parrots then plunge to the ground after falling out of a tree, or even having simply dropped from the sky while flying.
Lisa Hansen, of Ark Animal Hospital in Palmerston, says the odd problem happens each year around this season, but they have not been able to work out what the drunk parrots are eating.
"It seems that the birds get intoxicated by something they have eaten and it renders them unable to fly and function correctly," she added.
The birds - which are being taken to the animal hospital at a rate of about eight per day - can then get very sick (we've all been there) and are put on a special diet (full English, surely) before being released.
