Awful but manly ways to die

An 1814 mishap in London caused a beer tankard to explode, sending a torrent of ale down city streets and resulting in nine fatalities. Contrary to what the denizens of your local student union might suggest, being inundated by booze can result in the sort of hangover you don't wake up from.

I'm confused! A tankard of ale? A tankard, according to all the definitions I can find is a metal drinking vessel, sometimes with a hinged lid. It's about the size of a pint pot. So what caused the explosion in the tankard which released the small quantity of beer at such high speed that it killed or injured so many or is the word tankard being used incorrectly, perhaps a tanker or barrel or even keg?

Hmm, odd that this incident happend in 1814: One Hundred and Ninety years ago. Most drinks contain water; and it is the liquid that kills in floods. Alcohol has nothing to do with it.
If this (clearly) Government sponsored site is using this incident to ward off the young from over indulgence, then it fails. Even someone with a GCSE can see the analogy is irrelevant.
As quoted in a song in the late 1970's : "some drink to remember, some drink to forget".
Students throughout the years have always had an (unfair) reputation for over indulgence in alcohol: ironically so too have the many politicians this Country over the last 100 years.
Many people have died in floods but thiese have absolutely nothing to do with alcohol consumption. This is another example of Nanny State trying to use an analogy which is totally irrelevant: rather like Messrs Brown, Blair and Darling.
More people die of over doses of drugs, whether self-inflicted or through (so called) treatment by the medical proffession.
Believe me; more Cancer Care patients die of the drugs which are dispensed to them than the actual cancer itself.
Most die of renal and liver failure because the toxins (the drugs) over power those purification systems.
For once will the Government "experts" shut-up and stop manipulating the facts. True Alcoholism is no joke, but asserting that anyone who drinks more than 2 pints of simple lager (weak enough to be sold to children) only encourages people.
And has it occured to Messrs Brown and Blair that the alcohol problem with the under 25's has increased since they have been in power?
As I said some drink to remember; some drink to forget. I can understadn that most young people leaving College/University with over £6K worth of debt would rather drink to forget.
After all, what have they got to look forward to?
Being told that they are over-qualified for the rest of their lives! Really; what is the point of being qualified if all employers want is button pushers !

Wonderful journalism! Really typical, top quality AOL news standard! With Big Brother and lobotomised, surgically adjusted C list celebs at the top of the list of news-worthy items, anyone with more than three brain-cells just can't go wrong. As for this most amusing and obviously true story, I would love to witness an exploding beer tankard - especially if the resulting inundation was sufficient to drown several people. Keep up the good work and high standards of journalism!
